Passport Monday, July 16, 2007 Heard from the news that government juz made another legislation that if a citizen loses passport for more than 2 times, they will nv be given a passport again. Unlike the last penalty of paying fines which double for every passport lost. Of cuz as usual they say that if you got valid reasons which are credible, then they will give chance and stuff. For those whose passport are not replaced, they can still applied to ICA for a temporary permit to go overseas and of cuz based on the discretion of the authority. Although it is wrong to lose passport and demand it to be replaced at free will, the penalty seems harsh i feel. Of cuz the reason given is that it act as a deterrence to prevent pple from losing passport, or rather being not careful. But certainly the current penalty seems sufficient liao. Moreover for the person who can never have the passport, it is something like losing a right. Juz imagine if you are a business traveller and have to apply to ICA every time for permit to go overseas for business purposes. A bit like jailed up in Singapore liao lo like tt. Now they say that if lose passport more than 2 times then cannot hold passport again, the next thing may be if u lose your IC for more than 2 times, they will bar you from holding IC. Personally think that it is quite ridiculous for them to make such law. Wonder y are tax payer paying so much tax for the minister to be so free and think of such stupid legislation... Well they always say Singapore law not not based on populists' views... |
